Grief is something we all go through at some point—but navigating it doesn’t have to mean getting stuck in pain forever. Is it possible to heal, find peace, and feel like yourself again after loss? I believe it is.
While we can’t change what’s happened, we can choose how we respond. In a recent episode of the Grief & Happiness podcast with Emily Thiroux Threatt, I had the privilege of sharing my personal journey and the insights I’ve gained through my work as a Grief Specialist and founder of Handling Grief.
My path to becoming a Grief Specialist wasn’t planned. It began when I lost my brother at the age of 30. That heartbreaking moment brought to the surface the unresolved grief I’d carried since losing my mum at 13.
Until then, I thought time alone would heal. But that loss made it painfully clear—unprocessed grief doesn’t just go away. Healing began when I consciously faced the pain, honoured my feelings, and took action. That’s when I discovered a new way forward: a way to reclaim peace, productivity, passion for life, and purpose.
Out of my personal healing journey, I created the Handling Grief Programme—a practical, step-by-step approach to help others move forward after loss.
In the podcast, I speak about:
What makes this method different from traditional counselling
How active grief recovery can empower people to heal without getting stuck for years
The importance of tailoring grief support to each individual’s unique story
We often want to help friends, colleagues or loved ones who are grieving—but don’t always know how.
In the episode, I offer down-to-earth guidance on:
Avoiding common pitfalls (like vague “Let me know if you need anything” offers)
Providing real, meaningful support
Showing up with presence and empathy, not just platitudes
We also discuss how unresolved grief can affect different areas of life—especially at work, in relationships, and in your sense of identity.
I share why:
Building emotional resilience is key for navigating tough times
Small moments of joy can exist even in the middle of sorrow
Ongoing support makes a real difference in the healing process
If you’re grieving—or supporting someone who is—this conversation will give you fresh insight and encouragement. You'll hear:
My personal story and why I became a grief coach
How multiple bereavements shaped my approach to grief
The long-term impact of unresolved grief
Why every grief journey is unique and should be treated that way
How to be genuinely helpful to someone who’s grieving
Ways to handle grief across different areas of life
Whether you're facing your own loss or walking alongside someone else, you're not alone. There is a way forward, and it starts with taking one gentle step at a time.
